Vision
Fitzroy Gasworks was once an integral part of Melbourne’s gas network, but the site has long been disused, resulting in a disconnect between the surrounding suburbs. This project is an opportunity to rejuvenate the area with a new neighbourhood that restores connection between Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, Collingwood and Clifton Hill. It’s also an opportunity to deliver housing diversity to the area, alongside public open space and commercial tenancies for hospitality, retail and creative use. To ensure this project meets the needs of the area, we will establish a team of local design practices and placemakers—highly skilled collaborators with a strong affinity for Melbourne’s inner-north and a mutual passion for building better cities.
Principles
This project is in the early stages of development. While outcomes are yet to be determined, pending consultation with the local community and key stakeholders, the direction of the project will be guided by four principles.
Team
Fitzroy Gasworks will be developed by a local consortium responsible for some of the best projects in Melbourne’s inner-north. Comprising Milieu, Assemble and Hickory the consortium will work in partnership with Nightingale alongside social and specialist disability accommodation housing providers. In collaboration with Development Victoria, we will work to ensure this project makes a positive and lasting contribution to the area. Having completed many projects in and around Fitzroy, the consortium has an abiding sense of connection to this suburb and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
