1 Bedford Street, Collingwood
Completed (2016)
Once a single dwelling, 1 Bedford Street is a striking and contextually relevant building tucked behind Smith Street, Collingwood.
Partially clad in corten steel, the robust exterior houses five north-facing loft-style dwellings. From the gabled roof to the rhythmic pattern of the windows reminiscent of dwellings in Amsterdam, the façade draws on Dutch design principles and makes smart use of land through its verticality. Inside, raw and refined materials form interiors that are modern, comfortable, functional.
Accents of timber and cement, alongside the unconventional living topologies, make this an intriguing addition to a heritage street, in a neighbourhood defined by its progressive character and creative spirit.
