231 Napier Street, Fitzroy
Completed (2021)
Situated in a tranquil pocket of Fitzroy, this series of 11 apartments was crafted by Edition Office—a local studio lauded for their intuitive, experimental and rigorous approach to architecture and design.
Though designed as a whole, buildings are experienced at a human scale. Sights, sounds and textures shape our understanding of architecture and form our memories. Exploring this, Edition Office has created Napier Street as a series of moments that reveal and amplify daily experiences, as occupants make their way from the street to their home.
The design speaks to the history and memory of Fitzroy, and celebrates its unique character through a series of details that shapes these homes. From the relief patterns, to the window and door arrangements, to the rhythm of the facade, terrace-house typology is evident throughout the homes—as is Edition Office’s innovative and distinct approach to design.
A sweeping canopy of trees lines the quiet street, corner parks are alive with birdsong and calm activity, and the nearby buildings are steeped in rich history. It’s these subtle details that make Napier Street an inner-city refuge, where life moves at a gentler pace.
