Nth Fitzroy by Milieu, Fitzroy North
Completed (2018)
Created in collaboration with Fieldwork architects and Flack Studio, Nth Fitzroy by Milieu is a series of homes in Melbourne’s inner-north, defined by bold architecture and flexible interiors.
Designed to provide abundant air flow and natural light, the building is wrapped in a meshed ‘veil’ with operable shutters and screens. These elements can be adjusted for comfort and privacy throughout the day and across the seasons—a consideration of particular benefit for dwellings with a western facing. A central staircase connects homes to the communal garden and retail space on the ground floor.
Offering comfort, flexibility and quality of life, the interiors were guided by a focus on clever storage and flexible layouts that are well suited to couples and families looking to stay close to Melbourne’s inner-city. A central staircase that connects the homes to a communal garden and ground-floor retail space underscores the project’s social focus.
