We believe homes should be designed with family and friends in mind, with each detail considered to enhance the experience of hosting loved ones. This core principle influences the design at every step, resulting in layouts that offer innumerable possibilities for entertaining. Whether it’s close friends over for dinner, or family brunch on Sunday morning, these homes are tailored to ensure hosting is always a simple pleasure.
Fieldwork's Director Quino Holland's thoughtful and rigorous work spans the globe, but he has a particular affinity with Brunswick East. A resident of the area for more than a decade, Quino has an unparalleled sense of what makes the area so special and brings this research and reflection to the project. Designed with the soul of its surroundings in mind, the façade offers glimpses into history around every corner. These moments of local context not only elevate the level of design, they highlight an architectural sensibility that reflects the cultural past, present and future of the area.
Foolscap Studio’s distinguished portfolio demonstrates an uncanny knack for utilising space and functionality to create memorable interiors. Highly experienced in the hospitality sector, this project draws on the studio’s deep understanding of hosting rituals; sophisticated, streamlined and consistent with the best practices of hospitality, these interiors make shared moments sing.

The site is nestled in the heart of Melbourne’s inner north, on the corner of Lygon and Edward Street, Brunswick East. The area’s rich history of Asian, Middle Eastern and European culture ensures a diverse offering of enchanting cuisines and varying modes of dining, from casual local favourites to more formal degustation. This culinary heritage has evolved into a mélange of flavours just minutes from the residence.
Prior to starting work at Brunswick East the project team enjoyed a lunch on-site hosted by Congress and Etta during the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2019. In attendance were old friends Quino Holland of Fieldwork and Adele Winteridge of Foolscap who have created something unique: a distinguished response to the local area that reflects the neighbourhood’s industrial past and contemporary style, designed to be shared with family and friends.

Design Excellence Scorecard
We’re proud to share that Brunswick East by Milieu received a tick of approval on the ‘Design Excellence Scorecard’—a new program initiated by Moreland City Council. The scorecard exists to improve the quality and liveability of medium and high-density housing in the area. This is a vision we share wholeheartedly, and we’re humbled to be the first recipient of this commendation.
Brunswick East by Milieu is the only project thus far to meet all four benchmarks on environmental impact, building design and construction, accessibility, and community benefit.
